Local Poverty Alleviation
Local Poverty Alleviation (LPA) envisions a world where poverty is eradicated in our community and our university is equipped, through a diverse and resilient community, to overcome new challenges relating to poverty. Our mission is to develop the systems necessary to sustainably alleviate and eradicate poverty in our communities through education, advocacy and action. We have a variety of current and upcoming projects, run by teams of general members guided by a project lead. These projects seek to:
- alleviate food insecurity for students in light of the COVID-19 pandemic
- increase access to transit for youth so they can more easily connect to resources across the city
- provide ‘permanent addresses’ to homeless populations so they can access various support services
- improve access to internet and technology in lower income populations
In addition to these projects, we provide training and learning opportunities for our members that aims to support project work in LPA, and in future social impact endeavours.
